Indicator species – how to make good use of them?

The picture is of Galium odoratum, (syn. Asperula odorata)

The presence of this species in a forest indicates that the soil is very fertile there. I learnt this fact first during our EFFC in Austria.

So, if you need to buy some land to grow a forest there, you can check this species to know how fertile the land is – Professor Harald had said.

So, check the presence of this species if you want to buy some land. This is one way of making good use of indicator species that helps you in decision making.

But on the other hand, not everybody is a buyer. Some of you might have a large area of land and you might want to sell it some day. So, if you come to know that a forester is looking for some land to buy, you can again make better use of this species — Plant this grass in that portion of land which you wish to sell and show it to the forester, so that the forester has an impression that your land is fertile and he readily buys it! 👌😂
