This will be quite difficult for me to make my batchmates understand this. Because nobody except Surya and I (from our program) took the course – ‘Foresight methods and applications for the forestry sector.’

This blog is created using the “Backcasting” technique of the “Foresight methods” course. So let me first copy and paste a definition of backcasting.

Backcasting can be defined as “generating a desirable future, and then looking backwards from that future to the present in order to strategize and to plan how it could be achieved” (Quist J. and Vergragt Philip J., 2011)

You remember the very first day you were in Joensuu?

It was sunny no?

Was that on August 2nd or 7th??

It was 2018 right?

Oh, Victoria. Do you know where she is now? And Sami! Is he still as fat as he was then? He should also have been old now. He was somewhat of the same age as we were!

Oh, I feel like it is already thousands of years since then!

• You know I fell down from my bicycle during the early days! It was left hand drive in Nepal. And in Finland, it was right hand drive!
• The hiking in Koli!
• Rafting at the Ruunaa Rapids! And the first sauna experience. With Timo and Marjoriitta!
• The first snowfall in Joensuu. The roads that had become somewhat familiar were all strange again for me for some days!! 😅
• The dark, sleepy days!
• Those days when we have classes from 8:00 till 16:00. And no break even for lunch.
• The nights when you stood outside in the freezing -20 degrees expecting to see the Northern lights!
• You use to party a lot, no!? Well, I was not a party-man then. Not even now. 😀
• Everybody (50%) wanted to go to Germany for the second year! 🙂
• The first skating. Skiing.
• The language cafes!
• Joensuu Debate Society! Maybe nobody knows. I was the only one from our class who went there. 🙂
• The international dinner!
• Late nights in the library!
• The first day I found out that there were pianos in Educa! Maybe nobody knows even now how I felt that day!
• Some boring lectures! Oh, some of us had once joked that we should rank professors who ‘make us feel more sleepy in the class!’ 😛

One day, I was just sitting thinking about the future. And I started thinking about the past from the future.

Backcasting!!

What needs to be done so that all these moments will come vividly to everybody’s mind when we will be in the future??

Some actions that we can do now.

Like?

Writing about some cherishable moments. Or creating a collection of photos or videos.

Hmm, a group blog!!?
